Event Description:

If you're in the geology industry and you're interested in what a career transition into data science could look like for you, don't miss this event! There's a lot of risk and worry that goes into changing your career, and we hope to put all those worries to rest in this discussion.
We see the transition from Geologist to Data Scientists quite frequently! We will be diving into why we think this is so common, what skill and career overlaps there are and what the competitive advantages are of bringing your geology experience into the data science world.
We will be talking to former Geologist turned Data Scientist, Alice Heesacker who made her transition from Geologist to Data Scientist by attending Galvanize's Data Science Immersive. We'll learn about her transition, and her tips and tricks to make a similar pivot smoothly and successfully.

Target Audience:

Everyone is welcome, however this will be particularly useful for Geologists and Scientists who are considering a career transition into tech!

About the Speaker:

Alice Heesacker is a Geologist turned Data Scientist. Alice received her Masters in Geology and began her geology career at Chesapeake Energy in Oklahoma soon after. Although she greatly enjoyed her roles as a Geologist, data science started to pique her interest after being placed on a project where she got her hands on a little data, analytics and SQL. With her heart tied to Denver, she made her way home to attend the Galvanize Data Science Immersive program, graduating in December of 2019. Alice now works as a Data Scientist at PlutoShift and accredits some of her success to her experience in geology.
