Always been interested in Buddhism, but not quite sure where to start? Our weekly meetups typically consist of learning to practice chanting meditation and discussing basic Buddhist concepts, and its origin and history.
• All levels and backgrounds are welcome to attend!
• Please feel free to ask questions openly in the "Discussions" tab—or send us a direct message
• We'll do our best to help each other explore Buddhism in our monthly "Intro to Buddhism" meetups
• From time to time, we also schedule group visits to temples in Japan and locally in the Bay Area—as well as other activities like taiko classes.
I was born in SF and have been practicing Buddhism since I was a child. I've been visiting Myoshinji temple (located in Pinole, CA)—for over 30 years. Growing up Buddhist (and Asian-American), I've met so many friends and acquaintances who were curious about it, but didn't quite know where to begin or what "real" Buddhism is. Who is Shakyamuni Buddha? What are the basic principles? Why are there so many different types of Buddhism? So what is karma, really?
The truth is Buddhism is much, much more than a meditation tool for stress relief—and it has a much more diverse history than portrayed in popular culture. So, I started inviting friends over for informal meetups to explore and discuss these topics—and now, after a few years, I thought it was time to open it up to the public.
This meetup is a unique and safe place to ask questions and learn about Buddhism, to share photos and stories of our travels to temples, and to learn from visiting priests. Feel free to send us a message if you have any questions.
