The Hunger Games (Movie meetup - no reading required!)

Come join us as we watch THE HUNGER GAMES (view the trailer), based on the bestselling YA novel by Suzanne Collins and directed by Gary Ross (SEABISCUIT, PLEASANTVILLE). The film stars Jennifer Lawrence (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS), Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG), Josh Hutcherson (LITTLE MANHATTAN, CIRQUE DU FREAK: THE VAMPIRE'S ASSISTANT), Elizabeth Banks (ROLE MODELS), Stanley Tucci (CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE CORE), Woody Harrelson (ZOMBIELAND), and Donald Sutherland (THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH, SPACE COWBOYS).

From IMDB:

In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

UPDATE (PLEASE READ):

We'll be attending the 2:35 PM showtime. Given how popular this movie is, we'd strongly encourage you to save time and ensure your spot by buying your tickets online here (in case the link says the showtime is no longer available, just select "Sunday, Apr. 1" and the 2:35 showtime and it should work). Fandango does charge a convenience fee, but you can waive it by using the following in the AMC Stubs #: [masked]. We'll be going to Ted's Montana Grill for dinner around 5:15 PM. If you plan to attend, you must RSVP separately for April's Dinner (no reading required!).

We ask that you please meet up with the group before the movie so we can accurately take attendance. If you arrive before 2:00 PM, we'll be standing downstairs near the escalators (in front of the ticket line and automated ticket machines). After that prior to the showtime, we'll start saving seats (to the extent we can for a group this big) and you can meet us right outside the entrance to our theatre room. If you arrive late, we'll re-congregate after the movie immediately outside our theatre room before walking over to the restaurant.

Please update your RSVP and guestcount if you will not be attending!

I had not read the book prior to the meetup. I think it would have made for a better understanding of the movie. The cast was really great. The story line was a bit disturbing for me since I grew up since I grew up in East Germany during WW ll and lived in Dresden, a Russian occupied zone. It really looked very much like movie.
I am looking forward to watching the second part

Had a great time - but (and I can't fault the meet-up for this) the movie was shot w/ WAY too much close-up work. I think I got a headache from it! But, the movie was pretty decent (glad I saw it!) over all, and the company was outstanding!

I thought this meetup was well organized. It was easy to find the group and I met some new people. I enjoyed the film- and it would have been nice to dine with all to further discuss the movie. However I made plans for the rest of the night. Looking forward to the next meetup!

Have a family problem to take care of, and won't be able to go. If anyone hasn't purchased a ticket yet, they can have mine. Just let me know right away.

If you'd like to attend the post-movie dinner but haven't yet RSVPed for it, please do so here: http://www.meetup.com/bookclub-1137/events/52468082/

Even though the event looks 'full', please add yourself to the waitlist, and I'll adjust the reservation and scale up the attendee limit. Thanks!

I think it's just too early yet. The movie times usually get posted a couple days before the next opening weekend.
