LiveCode Developers - Special Guest!

Details

SPECIAL GUEST for our April 5 meeting: Phil Davis of PDS Labs will be coming down from Portland, OR to join Paul Looney in discussing a socket server implementation for networked business applications.

Phil's been developing in LiveCode since before v1.0, and his experience crafting the server for Paul's system will make for a lively discussion, especially interesting for members exploring client-server applications and custom protocols.

Here's the general info on our group:

The SoCal LiveCode Developers Group meets on the first Thursday of each month at Du-Par's in Pasadena.

What is LiveCode?

LiveCode is a rapid application development toolkit for most major platforms: Linux, Windows, OS X, iOS, Android, and Raspberry Pi.

It has a high-level event-driven scripting language in which GUI objects are built-in along with everything else you'd expect in a general-purpose language, shortening the distance between designing and shipping an application.

LiveCode Community Edition is licensed under GPLv3 and freely available at LiveCode.org (https://livecode.org)

What do you do at your meetings?

Most of our meetings have at least one presentation between 30 and 60 minutes, with the rest of the time for open Q&A and problem-solving. While many of our members are experienced scripters, we mix it up with introductory talks when we know we'll have newcomers (one more reason to RSVP).

I know nothing about LiveCode - can I come anyway?

Of course! The more the merrier, space permitting. The room we use at Du-Par's can seat about 20 people quite comfortably, and we're happy to share what we're learning about LiveCode with anyone who's interested.
