What we’re about

Kia ora and welcome!

Ōtepoti Dunedin Homeschoolers (known as "SHEAF - Supporting Home Education Among Families" 2003-2023) is a supportive and inclusive community for homeschooling families in the Otago region.

Our group is a supportive and inclusive space for homeschooling families of Ōtepoti-Dunedin to connect and thrive. Our community includes LGBTQ+ families, neurodiverse families, and families from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds. We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and stand in solidarity with movements for justice.

We are committed to fostering an environment of respect, safety, and belonging for all. We celebrate diversity and expect all members to uphold these values in their interactions.

If you share our commitment to kindness and inclusivity, we'd love to have you here.

E hara taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini.

My strength is not as an individual, but as a collective.

Our events are in general open to all homeschoolers – membership to our Meetup page requires you to be homeschooling and in our region, whether you live here or are travelling through. Different events may have guidelines as to who is able to attend based on age etc, at the organiser's discretion.

Any member is welcome to schedule a meetup - just get in touch with our admins for some guidance on how to go about it.

We gauge interest in events via RSVPs, and while they are not always necessary (unless otherwise stated) they are appreciated for keeping the organisers motivated and so that you can be contacted if meetup details change.

Our membership list is periodically tidied up. If you have not logged into meetup in 6 months or have not attended an event within 3 months of joining, you may be asked to join again.

Thank you from our admin team!
