What we’re about
Love Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman on BBC Sherlock? More of a Jeremy Brett/Edward Hardwicke fan? How about Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law? Or CBS's "Elementary"?
Whoever your favorite recent Sherlock and Watson might be... this is a group to share your enthusiasm, while at the same time returning to the source that informed all these great performances ....Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes stories.
We also will check out mystery writers from around the world! Agatha Christie, Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe, John Grisham, James Patterson and more!
Our initial plan is to meet monthly for breakfast or coffee, having read the monthly story by Doyle, and discuss! Other activities might include screenings of favorite screen versions as a group.
All ages and all Sherlockian fans welcome.

Haunted House Confidential : The Art and Origins of the Scare with Kristen Phillips
How did haunted attractions like the haunted house, the haunted hayride, and the corn maze become much loved and essential Halloween traditions, and what’s it like to work at one?
Kristen Phillips is an artist with over a decade of experience working in haunted houses in a variety of roles, including costume and makeup designer, prop builder, and makeup artist. In this presentation, Kristen will share stories from her time working at haunted attractions including Eastern State Penitentiary’s Terror Behind The Walls and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios.
She will also weave these personal experiences into a broader historical narrative by diving deep into the history of the haunted attraction - exploring the first accounts of haunted places, the rise of Grand Guignol theatre, the architecture of the labyrinth, scares vs. thrills, and the esoteric, social, and psychological utility of the haunted attraction today.
Kristen will also have her own original masks and sculptures on display for the event.
Kristen Phillips is a Los Angeles based sculptor, designer, fabricator, and writer. Since 2004, she has created masks, props, sculptures, and costume pieces for film, TV, theater, live events, the haunted attraction industry, and private collectors. Her work has been shown at LACMA, Copro Gallery, Lethal Amounts Gallery, and The Hive Gallery.
Since 2020, she has been writing and illustrating The Membrane, an illustrated novel published serially on Patreon and Substack. The first volume of The Membrane will be released in print in late 2023. She is also host of the recently launched Liminal Credential(s) podcast.
