What we're about

We are an affiliate of the American Humanist Association. We are here to be a beacon of reason for those that consider themselves secular, atheist, agnostic, humanist, and/or a free thinker. If you are searching for a place to ask questions, you have found it. If you are searching for an inclusive group that is here to listen and not to judge, you have found it. We stand on the side of equality, not division. You do not have to agree with everything everyone says, but we do expect kindness, compassion, and civility from all that participate in our events.

Please join us. We would love to meet you!

Coffee and Conversation: Secular Parenting

West Lafayette Library

*You do not have to be a parent to attend!* At the last event, one of our many tangents involved what secular people teach their children about religion/god. I know this is probably a hot topic for some, but if you plan on attending, please bring civility and kindness! This is not a topic meant to judge or disparage anyone for their parenting style, it's simply an exchange of ideas! I booked the Board Room at the library which has seating for 12, so I'm setting a limit on RSVPs. Coffee and snacks will be provided! (bring your own water!)

Hiking at Shades Park

Location visible to members

**JUNE 15th hike canceled, moved to this date** **This is a weather permitting event.** Come enjoy an afternoon in Shades Park. We will meet at the Hickory Shelter area to eat lunch before heading out for some hiking. There is no pool at this park but you can hike back to Sugar Creek and wade while searching for fossils (in my kids' case, swim). Things to bring: Bug spray, sunscreen, water, and your own picnic lunch. **There is a $7 entrance fee per vehicle. I'm not sure if they take debit/credit so you better bring cash!** FYI: Shades is just down the road from Turkey Run. Your $7 entrance free will also get you into Turkey Run for the day for those interested in visiting that park after. They have a Native American village and a farm to check out in addition to swimming and hiking. This is a great park for those who don't like rugged hiking as its mostly prairie. Things to Bring: Swimming gear, water, suncreen/bugspray, and your own picnic lunch. Swimming fees are $5/per person ages 4 & up. 3 and under are free. Gate fee is $8/per vehicle Link to the park website: https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2971.htm Link to the map: https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/files/prophetstown_trail.pdf

Book Club: Educated By: Tara Westover

Erin’s House

Come enjoy snacks and discussion of Tara Westover's book Educated. Educated is a wonderfully written memoir about Tara Westover's experience growing up in a fundamentalist Mormon family, then her eventual break away from her family and the Mormon faith. This book is also about the importance of education and complexities of family relationships. Just a warning there are instances of physical abuse and severe medical neglect described in detail. Things to bring: Your favorite beverage and a snack to share. This event will be at my house so feel free to bring wine or beer :)
