SMAQDown #2 - Ideas, speakers, venues...

Hi Folks,

Hope you all enjoyed the last SMAQDown as much as I did! It was great to see so many people brave the weather to turn out for our first meetup. For those who didn't make it - here's hoping we'll see you soon at our next meetup.

We're hoping to line up another SMAQDown for around mid-January, and we're looking for anyone who feels like getting up and speaking about their experiences with big data.

We're hoping to run two types of session at our next meetup.

First, SMAQTalks - talks from speakers in Australia about their experiences in big data. For example:

- A project at work where you've had to step up to using tools like Hadoop in order to process the volume of data, and talk about why you chose the tools you did, what the architecture was, what the challenges were, what you'd do differently next time etc.
- Some new tools you've discovered for data processing (anyone playing with S4 yet?) and maybe have tried on a small experiment cluster
- An academic project that examines concepts of high availability and scalability

Second, SMAQDown - an opportunity to take a scalability problem you have, or know you will have, and put in front of our audience of experts. If you can stand up and explain your problem, we'll tear it down as a group and discuss the different possible approaches to solving it.

Finally, venues. It would be great if anyone can offer us a venue - ideally seat around 20 people. If you can please get in touch with me!

Feel free to drop me an line directly, or you can suggest an idea here:
