SMART Recovery is a science-based mutual help group for people who want to learn about and acquire strategies for overcoming all kinds of chemical and behavioral addictions. SMART Recovery is based on cognitive-behavioral therapy principles and practices, and each group meeting is facilitated by a trained, certified leader.
The SMART Recovery approach is best described as educational, collaborative, supportive, warm, and engaging. The focus in SMART Recovery is on four points: (1) Building and maintaining motivation to change; (2) Coping with urges to use; (3) Managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and; (4) Living a balanced Life.
There is never a charge for attending a SMART Recovery group, and those who attend do not need to RSVP. We also welcome friends and families of those who struggle with addictions.
