Performance Considerations for SQL Server I/O Infrastructure

Details
G'day,
Well, it seems like the third Wednesday of the month is coming around faster and faster these days. Which means it's time for August's meeting.
This month we've persuaded one of the leadership committee - Hamish Watson - to spend an hour entertaining us.
Hamish will be giving an insight into what considerations you should have for ensuring high I/O performance for SQL Server.
This is basically about why you should always have a beer with your SAN guys and/or infrastructure guys.
The infrastructure they provide for your SQL server can have a dramatic effect on the performance of your system.
Too often there are silos between DBA/DEV and those infrastructure guys.
Now that virtual servers and SANs are more commonplace – it is more important than ever that performance is designed and considered from the onset of any SQL Server installation.
Hamish’s presentation will cater for both DBA, BI technologies (OLTP/OLAP) and the effect not having the right infrastructure in place can have.
There will be prizes for the best questions/heckling.
As usual the doors will open at 5:30 for networking, with Hamish starting his presentation at 6.00pm.
Hopefully we'll see you all there.
Cheers
Martin, Hamish, Nick, Rob and Sarah.
