What's New in SQL Server 2016

Details
G'day
Well it's building up to the busiest time of the year in the SQL User Group world. The annual PASS summit will be taking place in Seattle, Washington from 26th October (http://www.sqlpass.org/Events/PASSSummit.aspx). Martin is heading away there early, but will leave October's meeting in the capable hands of Hamish, who'll also be joining him in Seattle for the summit . If you're not going to be there you can still tune in on PASS TV (https://www.youtube.com/user/SQLPASSTV).
Before we get started with the SQL stuff, we'd like to tell you about at event called "BI over Beers" that is taking place at "The Cuban (http://www.thecuban.co.nz/)" - just around the corner from CPIT on Wednesday 30th September at 5:30pm. This is being run by our friends from Varigence (https://www.varigence.com/), in partnership with Mettle. Some of you may remember that Varigence sponsored SQL Saturday Christchurch in 2014. Come along and hear about what's new with Varigence as well the Varigence-Mettle partnership and training dates for Biml and BimlStudio. RSVP on eventbrite. (https://www.eventbrite.co.nz/e/bi-over-beers-christchurch-nz-tickets-18730796316)
The annual Canterbury Software Summit (http://softwaresummit.co.nz/) is taking place in Wigram on Thursday 1st October. The User Group will be presenting a session - along with the local .Net group. Hopefully we'll see you there. Again, you can book in through Eventbrite (http://www.eventbrite.co.nz/e/canterbury-software-summit-2015-tickets-8159403997?aff=es2)
The next SQL Saturday in the region takes place in Auckland on Saturday 3rd October (http://www.sqlsaturday.com/456/eventhome.aspx). We're sending Martin up there to represent us. If you or any of your network would like to attend then you'll be made more than welcome. We'll also be seeing our BIML friends there too!
And not to be outdone, we can now officially announce our own SQL Saturday (http://www.sqlsaturday.com/479/eventhome.aspx). It's a collaboration between the three SQL User Groups on the South Island - Christchurch, Nelson and Dunedin. Saturday 16th April 2016 will see the event formerly know as SQL Saturday Christchurch become SQL Saturday South Island NZ (http://www.sqlsaturday.com/479/eventhome.aspx) - it's free, so book in now - we hope to have some great speakers.
This month we've persuaded Rob Douglas to tell us all about SQL Server 2016 and it's new features.
The Community Technology Preview has been out for SQL Server 2016 for a little while now so it's time to take a look at features new and improved.
There's something for everyone with DBA's getting new tools to delve into performance issues, and new options for resolving them. Application development for SQL Servers just got a whole lot easier and the BI crowd once again get a whole bunch of options to provide better data from more sources faster and in different ways.
Come along and learn all about this and how SQL Server is evolving to embrace the cloud and mobile revolutions.
As a final note, we're stepping up our social media presence - specifically to publicise SQL Saturday South Island. (http://www.sqlsaturday.com/479/eventhome.aspx) We've got a new Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ChristchurchSQL) and a new linked in group (https://www.linkedin.com/grp/home?gid=8391256) - feel free to join any of them.
As usual doors at CPIT open at 5:30pm for networking with Rob kicking off his presentation at 6:00pm
See you all there
Cheers
Martin, Hamish, Nick, Rob and Sarah.
