In this session we will build a data factory pipeline to copy data to Azure SQL Database using a metadata driven approach. No slides, just demos.

Then John will present : Securing SQL Server on-premises or in Microsoft Azure

Abstract: Securing SQL Server is something that we all look to do. From making sure that logins and users have the correct rights assigned through to making sure that backup and the file system is secure. However, one area that many people neglect is securing their network surface area. In this session we will look at how we can make use of Windows Firewall to help protect our SQL Server systems as well as looking at how Network Security Groups in Azure can be layered on top of this. Why would we need to do this I hear you ask, when you look at how ransomware like NotPetya spreads through a network using common administrative tooling it will become very clear why we need to take this precaution.
