Join us for our monthly maker educator meetup!
This month, we’ll be taking a look at the latest addition to the STEAMLabs space - the Epilog Laser Mini (https://www.epiloglaser.ca/products/legend-laser-series.htm). Primarily used in small spaces, this compact tabletop laser cutter has a 24”x12” bed and is great for cutting and engraving various types of wood, acrylic, leather and more. Browse through some of Epilog’s project possibilities here (https://www.epiloglaser.ca/resources/sample-club.htm). (cardboard bowling set, anyone?!)
Since this will be our last meetup before the holidays, we hope it will be a highly social and collaborative learning night! We’ll start off by discussing the possibilities of laser cutting and the advantages of owning a laser cutter such as the Epilog Mini in an educational space. How will learners use it? How will it enhance curriculum and digital learning? Then, we’ll guide you through designing your own file in Adobe Illustrator, and firing up the laser to cut it. At the end of the night, everyone will go home with their very own holiday trinket, similar to some of these examples:
Throughout the workshop, we encourage lively discussion, lots of questions, and collaboration! And if lasers aren’t a cool enough conversation starter, we’ll also have some yummy pizza and holiday treats to celebrate the end of 2016.
What to expect:
- Learn about the possibilities and benefits of owning a laser cutter in an educational space
- Design your very own holiday trinket in Adobe Illustrator and laser cut it on the Epilog Laser Mini
- Lively discussion around the future of education
- Friendly and open-minded networking
- Pizza and holiday treats to keep your tummy happy
We have lots of laptops with Adobe Illustrator available at the lab, but if you would prefer to bring your own, please make sure the program is installed prior to arrival. Adobe Illustrator CS2 + up is recommended.
You do not need to be an educator to RSVP - everyone is welcome!
