What we’re about

This Meetup encourages sharing, discussion, and networking about what is now humankind's greatest challenge: mitigating and adapting to the Climate Crisis.

This Meetup, at this point in time, is primarily a communication tool, but it is supportive of any events related to understanding and acting upon climate change. Organizers wishing to announce relevant events, or wishing to organize a Meetup meeting about climate change, please send a message to the Meetup organizer.

When this Meetup was originally formed, its focus was education, but not advocacy.  While broadly shared education about climate change is still very important, at this late and dangerous stage of the unfolding crisis, we must also inspire bold collective action to move quickly away from the use of fossil fuels and related actions that are fueling warming of the planet.  Thus, advocacy for relevant mitigation or adaptation actions is entirely appropriate as events to be held and publicized through this Meetup. The Climate Meetup organizers will make final determination of the appropriateness of events publicized to this Meetup audience,

Historical Note: From its initial formation in 2011, this Meetup used the name Climate Reality-St. Louis.  The Meetup was formed by two Climate Reality Leaders and Mentors, and the current Organizer is a Climate Reality Leader and Mentor.  This Meetup, however, was never sanctioned by The Climate Reality Project, and is not authorized to speak on behalf of the organization, hence the name change and removal of references to The Climate Reality Project from this Meetup.  Events by Climate Reality Leaders can be co-announced through this website, but are not official communications by The Climate Reality Project. Any sharing of communications generated by The Climate Reality Reality Project through this Meetup must be presented in their complete and unaltered form.

Note that in Spring of 2019, the Climate Reality Chapter of Greater St. Louis was formed, This officially sponsored Chapter is continuing to organize and will establish a social media presence.  Further updates will be shared as they become available.  Membership in the Climate Reality Chapter (unrelated to this Meetup) will be available to trained Climate Reality Leaders as well as to those who have not completed a Climate Reality training, but are interested in climate action.

'We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history there is such a thing as being too late.

We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage but time is deaf to every plea and rushes on. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: Too late."

Martin Luther King, 1968
