Haskell talk

Details
Rebecca Skinner will give a talk on Haskell.
Abstract:
When I first learned about Haskell, I remember thinking: "hey, this language is pretty neat. I should show some folks at work". It's been a decade since that miraculously naive moment— and I've learned more Haskell, but far more about team dynamics. So, in an industry where a 12-day old javascript framework can spawn three start-ups and a conference, why does a stable, mature, and correct language remain such a hard sell?
In this presentation we'll dig into why this happens, and what we can do about it. The audience will learn:
- What are the common problems people really encounter when learning Haskell?
- Why is it so hard to introduce Haskell to your team?
- How can we apply these lessons to the broader technical landscape?
This talk does not require more than a passing familiarity with Haskell, but individuals who have tried and failed to learn it in the past may find it especially beneficial.
Strategic Staffing Solutions (S3) will be sponsoring food and sodas tonight. We'll try to provide a wide variety of sandwiches. They'll also be raffling off a $50 Amazon gift certificate.
