Liquid Gold: An Educational Culinary Adventure in Olive Oil
TO REGISTER: Olive Oil is the Hidden Treasure of the Mediterranean Diet, one of the healthiest diets on the planet. Traditionally followed in Greece, Crete, southern France, and parts of Italy, this way of eating emphasizes fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grains, olive oil, and grilled or steamed chicken and seafood – plus a glass or two of red wine. It is more a lifestyle of healthy choices, than it is a diet. California has some of the highest – and strictest – standards for producing olive oil in the world. Here in the Bay Area we’re lucky to have some of the top producers. Join Chef Tom and his colleague Lincoln Giles (trained olive oil expert) for a Wine Country getaway this September. We will enjoy custom tastings and food pairings from two of our premier producers of “Liquid Gold.” Our first day starts at McEvoy Ranch in Petaluma, we’ll be on their gorgeous, sun-drenched patio overlooking their private lake, and taste four distinct oils, three yummy wines and some tastefully curated nibbles. Our second day will be at Il Fiorello Olive Oil in Fairfield. They have thirteen varieties of olives on their ranch. We’ll tour their orchard as well as their top-end olive mill. Afterwards we’ll be trained on how best to taste the oils, Then we'll have specific food pairings, sample some of their delicious wines and enjoy giant charcuterie platters. We have exclusive use of the Suisun Valley Inn for our two-night stay, a beautiful eight-bedroom mansion in Fairfield. This elegant manor was designed after George Washington’s home in Vermont and will be our home base. On one evening, in the Inn’s amazing kitchen, Chef Tom will conduct an olive oil and food pairing cooking class for us, where we’ll prepare an amazing feast together. This promises to be a very memorable foodie escape with great eats, great company and some very valuable education. Our Working Itinerary: McEvoy Ranch: – Ranch Tour, Olive Oil Tasting and Food Pairing – Three-Wine Flight The Suisun Valley Inn: – Two Night Stay – Continental Breakfast – Cooking Class and Food Pairing with Chef Tom Il Fiorello: – Farm and Mill Tour – Olive Oil Education, Tasting and Food Pairing – Three-Wine Flight – Charcuterie Platter DIRECTIONS: Driving North on 101, the new freeway construction has made GPS moot. Once you've left the freeway and are on San Antonio Road, then you can use your GPS. Take 101 North, towards Petaluma, to Exit 467 San Antonio Road/Silveira Road. Exit the highway and make the first left at the stop sign. Drive back over the freeway and keep straight onto San Antonio Road. You'll drive until you reach a three way intersection. Turn LEFT onto the main San Antonio Road (do not go straight onto the smaller version of San Antonio). Make the next left onto Red Hill Road. You'll see a side road on your left with the McEvoy Ranch sign. Turn left and follow the road to the main gate. Go through the gate and down the hill to the parking spaces next to the main building. Drive through the main gate of McEvoy Ranch, down the hill and park. You'll see picnic tables and the gift shop on your right. Look for us near the patio in front of the gift shop. TO REGISTER:
