What we're about
(Please Note: In an attempt to keep our community small, we are not currently accepting new families. However, if you are interested in joining our waitting list, please feel free to fill out an application, then reply to the follow-up email verifying your interest in being waitlisted. Thank you and happy outdoor adventuring!)
We are a very small group of homeschooling families who have just started to develop this forest school group to regularly connect with nature and experience the outdoors with all our senses. All of our outdoor family gatherings are available for all ages, all abilities and are hosted in all types of weather. At this point in our group, we do not employ any curriculum or formal teaching. In this experimental phase, we are meeting regularly outdoors, with loosely structured free play and exploration, as well as building a community of homeschooling families being the primary short-term goal. We may incorporate causal lessons in outdoor skills/nature and routine activities in the future for those who are interested, and welcome ideas/contributions from all!
We welcome families from all homeschool philosophy as we believe we can all benefit from immersion in nature regardless of religion, politics, or pedagogy. We also encourage and value families with children of all ages to join.
Our "usual" place to meet will be the Discovery Pavillion at Chatfield. But we often branch out to other locations such as Lair of the Bear, Mt. Falcon, and Alderfer Three Sisters Park. We also intend on incorporating camping trips as well.
Please know that due to our intention of keeping our group small and intimate, our membership roster will be capped at a small amount of families. If we cannot accept new members at the time of your application, we will let you know and add you to a waiting list if you wish.
We will require a yearly $15 membership due to cover Meetup.com expenses as well as to hopefully fund group materials and activities in the future.
