Welcome Fellow Sketcher!

Sacramento Sketchers is a fairly new group (started in November 2012) for artists who enjoy the challenge of sketching and drawing landscape scenes, objects, portraits and figures from real life. Our events are partnered up with the well-established Sacramento Plein Air Painters meetup group which currently has 489 members. So, more artists usually attend our events than the RSVP numbers on our pages indicate.

If you like the camaraderie and feedback of being around other artists when you draw, this group is for you! If you also like to paint, you should join Sacramento Plein Air Painters, too.

For the most part, our events are not classes and most of our meetups are free of charge. Occasionally, one of our artists may offer a demo or a more formal step-by-step lesson.

Sometimes we'll have friendly competitions like quick draw events and art show events at a few galleries who'll spotlight our artworks.

We have a friendly group critique, quarterly in a restaurant, along with Sacramento Plein Air Painters - bring one drawing or sketch and bring your appetite!

Our focus is on fun, friendship, and on always improving our sketching and drawing skills.

Kids under 18 are welcome to our events with an accompanying adult and well-behaved dogs on leashes are fine at (most, not all) outdoor meetups.

So, take a look at our upcoming events, become one of our charter members and join us, then RSVP a "YES" for something. Grab your sketchbook, your drawing tools, and come have fun with us! You don't need to RSVP "No" - just click the "Yes" button. Thanks,

~Martha Esch, Organizer

All art supplies provided: Loaner watercolor Prang kits, brushes and blank postcards. Your donation of $5 toward art supplies greatly appreciated. Kids free! 7 minute painting demonstration given, then participants paint for 20 minutes. You keep your postcard masterpiece.

Wear comfy shoes. Bring a folding chair if you don’t wish to sit on the ground.

Meet at the Lockeport Grill & Fountain at 13959 Main Street (4 buildings past Al the Wops) in historic Locke, California 95690 (1 mile north of WalnutGrove).

This is a mostly level 1 mile walk/hike. There is one 20' long somewhat steep narrow dirt path up a levee hill. We’ll pull you up it if you need help. Don't be late!

When we’re all done painting and snapping a group gallery pic or two, we walk back to Main Street, Locke — or you can walk directly to your parking spot. You can also opt to continue your hike (without Martha) around the trail that hugs Locke Slough and Snodgrass Slough.

Well-behaved children and obedient, friendly dogs on a leashes welcome to bring along.

Rain, high winds, excessive heat or icy cold weather cancels event. If weather is questionable, please call Martha on day of event. [masked]

Our Sacramento Plein Air Painters and Hikers & Company meetup groups and local artists are also invited and a few more local friends might join us, so there may be a few more participants than this RSVP indicates.

Wintertime (shortened daylight) December through March, this monthly hike starts at 3:30 pm since it gets dark so early. Summertime months (daylight savings time) this hike starts at 4:30 pm.

Any questions please call me.
