Ancil Hoffman Park Loop Trail Hike
Details Please join our group in the parking lot of the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. Gathering time is 8:45 am with a prompt departure of 9:00am! We'll walk around the perimeter of Ancil Hoffman Park for a minimum of 1 hour at a pace of about 3 miles an hour (20 mins per mile). It is a dirt trail with a few short, steep hills and some uneven terrain, but primarily flat. Total miles 3-ish. Towards the end of the hike, we will cross onto the Nature Center trails and scout for wildlife. Our morning will finish at the Nature Center building with an optional touring of their exhibits. (Trails can be muddy if recent rains occurred.) WALK-IN ENTRANCE: There is free street parking on Palm Avenue, close to San Lorenzo Way. Park on Palm, then walk south down San Lorenzo a couple of minutes to the Nature Center, which will be on your left. DRIVE-IN ENTRANCE: Access to the park is from Tarshes Rd only. The San Lorenzo entrance is permanently locked and the only way to enter the Effie Yeaw Nature Center (by car) is from Tarshes Dr and California Ave. See this link: https://www.sacnaturecenter.net/visit-us/hours-prices-directions/ PARKING INSIDE THE PARK: You must have a *PERMIT to park at the Nature Center lot. Without a permit, the parking fee is $5.00. The fee is payable at the self-pay box (Iron Ranger) just past the main entrance kiosk. *County Parks Pass is $50 for a year’s duration, see this link: http://arpf.org/visit/ IMPORTANT: Leave valuables at home or carry them with you on the hike. Also, do not be seen putting anything in your trunk or elsewhere in your car. This is a known easy break-in target by petty thieves! WHAT TO BRING: Comfortable shoes, hat or visor, sunscreen, light backpack, fanny pack, or belt purse, minimum of one liter of water. NOTE: Rain cancels. Restrooms are available just to the left of the kiosk when first entering Ancil Hoffman Park (last chance before hike). Also, restrooms are located about 1 mile into the hike and at the Nature Center (but the Center doesn’t open until 9:00 am). Drinking fountain within Nature Center. PLEASE MAKE CANCELLATIONS BY 9:00pm PREVIOUS EVENING AS A COURTESY TO THE HOST. THANK YOU!

What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in hiking and "bagging peaks", but at a slower pace. If you enjoy hiking but sometimes feel like you are "holding up the group", then you might want to try this group. I started this group because I enjoy hiking but I am not as fast as I used to be. I still "bag" peaks like Mt Tallac, Half Dome and Mt Whitney, just at a slower pace. If you are new to hiking, rehabbing an injury, not as young as you used to be, or just wanting a healthier lifestyle, come join us. This group is not about fast, this group is about the journey and the mutual patience we all need to make it to the top!
