Hike the Carrie Nation Trail in Madera Canyon

Madera Canyon Roundup at top end of Madera Canyon Road

Distance is 2.8 miles with an elevation gain of nearly 1200'. We'll hike this shady trail to the end where we'll find an abandoned mine and equipment. This will be our stop to have snacks and take a break. This (out and back) trail is steep and rocky (it may not be kind to some knees). Hiking poles are recommended. I have found Madera Canyon to be about 10 degrees cooler than Sahuarita. Madera Canyon is a fee area - $5.00 per car or Federal pass Meetup organizers are not tour guides and are not park rangers. Expect the same risks and take the same precautions you would take if you were walking/hiking/climbing alone. You are solely responsible for your own safety and well-being.

Easy hike on the Madera Canyon Nature Trail - in danger of cancelation!

We’ll meet at the Whitehouse picnic area (#2 on the map) and hike the nature trail. Directions: Drive south from Sahuarita on Interstate 19 to the Continental Road/Madera Canyon Exit. Turn east and follow the signs 12 miles to scenic Madera Canyon and the picnic area. The entire route is paved. It’s an out and back hike of about 5.3 mikes and has an elevation gain of about 882’. Madera Canyon is reported to be about 20 degrees cooler than Sahuarita, so check the weather before heading out and dress accordingly. Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome!
