Rust Overview

John Fultz will be discussing the Rust language. Rust was started by Mozilla with the intent of creating a language that would improve code safety by design, particularly addressing issues of memory safety and concurrency issues. However, many of its other goals are similar to those of C++, including easy interoperability with C libraries.

John will give an overview of what Rust is, how the development experience compares to the C++ development experience, and how to work with Rust and C++ in the same code base. He'll also briefly review a personal project he's been working on to teach himself Rust, and the lessons learned.
