What we’re about
Welcome to the St. Louis MO chapter of the Silent Book Club. All readers are welcome! Meetups will consist of approximately 30 minutes of socializing and then 30 minutes of silent reading. Everyone brings their own book. Afterwards we will have another 30 minutes of socializing (or you can keep reading if you'd rather). Meetups will take place at various coffee shops, cafes, or parks around the St. Louis area.

Suffering Focused Ethics talk
Bombay Food Junkies, 12955 Olive Blvd, St Louis, MO, USHi nice / cool people.
Here's a link to a short talk I'm giving about Suffering Focused Ethics, will be some presentation of the topic and then lots of time for open ended and (hopefully) interesting discussion about a very meaningful thing.
Text from the meeting:
Intro to Suffering Focused Ethics, Sat, Nov 8, 2025, 12:00 PM | Meetup
"How bad can suffering get?
If it's bad enough, should we prioritize reducing it over everything else, even amazing things like human happiness?
Join us at Bombay Food Junkies for a talk centered on these questions. After introducing the main ideas of suffering-focused ethics, a philosophy that believes we should prioritize reducing intense suffering, we'll open up the table for discussion by all. This is compatible with views expressed in Buddhism and other mainstream religious and philosophical views, just with an extra emphasis on the ethics of suffering reduction itself.
No philosophy background required — just an open mind and curiosity about how our ethical views can shape how and who we help."14 attendees
