Applications of Data Science, AI and ML in Finance and Healthcare - Usama Fayyad

September's meetup talk will be presented by Usama Fayyad, long-time worldwide leader in data science from the beginning. Usama was the first person ever to hold the title Chief Data Officer (at Yahoo!). He was cofounder of the KDD conferences, and has led Data science or Machine Learning at NASA JPL, Barclay's, Yahoo!, Microsoft, and many startups. Currently cofounder & CTO of OODA Health, which has opened a tech office in Salt Lake City.

Here's an abstract:

We give a quick historical summary of AI and Machine learning and discuss at a high level what worked, what didn’t and why. We proceed from there to emphasize a theme around Data being the real enabler of practical applications of AI/ML. This theme then poses the question of how to build the Data assets that enable successful use for AI and Machine learning. Unstructured Data and the BigData platforms force a disruptive change that left most enterprises in a major Data Chaos. The combination of economic drivers in enterprise computing, the need to leverage semi-structured and unstructured Data, and the emergence of the Internet of Things (IOT) is driving a dramatic shift in the Enterprise Data landscape. Hadoop and the Open Source stack have accelerated the changes to a point of confusion. Today’s business data analyst faces a bewildering environment of technologies and challenges involving semi-structured and unstructured data with access methodologies that have almost no relation to the past. An equal confusion is faced by IT and business users. In the meantime, the ability to drive significant business value from “Data Assets” has never been greater. This talk will cover:
