What we’re about
A group for people who try to improve their software development skills.
This is the place to
• Improve our coding skills with dojos (we are not focusing on any particular languages)
• Improve our team/soft skills by talking about techniques or playing "agile games"
• Improve our architecture skills with architectural katas and interesting talks
What we try to avoid:
• Learning about current trending frameworks/technologies (there are better places to learn e.g. about Angular X.Y.)
• Discuss benefits of several programming languages (every language has its strength and weaknesses)
• Talking about products, startups, business ideas
Also listed under the Softwerkskammer, on our GitHub profile and as an official Association in Austria under the name of "Software Craft und Testing Community Salzburg - Verein zur Förderung professioneller Software Entwicklung in Österreich"

Refactoring Kata: Mikado Method
Salzburg AG für Energie, Verkehr und Telekommunikation, Bayerhamerstraße 16, Salzburg, ATWhat will we do?
How can you split some larger refactoring into small, safe steps? One way to do it is the "mikado method". In a nutshell, it works like this:
- Just try the larger refactoring
- Write down everything that is preventing you from doing it successfully
- The first thing that is preventing you is now your larger refactoring
- Repeat the processSounds simple, right? Well, it always does, until one has to do it. So, in this meetup, we will try the method together, so you will get a better idea of how it works and whether it can be useful for you.
What to bring
- Curiosity about improving and refactoring your code base
- Openness to share and learn with a partner
- Your laptop, with a checked out version of this repository: https://github.com/dtanzer/babystepstimer
- Ideally you prepare the characterization-tests branch using Java
- In case you don't get Java to work on your machine pick a version of the other languages prepared in the repository!
Everyone is welcome
No matter your level – whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned dev – there’s something to gain from practicing thoughtful, constructive refactoring and improving your code.Location & Host
