Wildflower Walk for City Nature Challenge
Details
This will a slow walk at Gold Canyon Park and surrounding area with stops to take photographic observations of plants and animals for the citizen science website, iNaturalist. These observations which can be taken on cell phone or digital camera and added to the City Nature Challenge Project that documents all plants and animals observed in Metropolitan Areas around the world. Participants do not need to be observers on iNaturalist but can contribute by finding interesting plants and insects for other iNat observers. The leader, Jerry Morrisey, is a daily contributor to iNaturalist and will lead the plant observations and identifications. Approximately 30 to 50 Hill Country plants should be observed along with bees, butterflies, plant bugs and other insects.
Wear good shoes and consider long pants since part of this walk will be on rocky Hill Country terrain and on occasion through some higher vegetation. Potentially chiggers or ticks may be present. Bring along water to keep down dehydration. Binoculars would be useful to observe butterflies and birds.
