About us
Our Mission
The San Antonio Plus Size Women’s Hiking Group is dedicated to empowering women through outdoor adventure, meaningful connections, and a supportive community. We believe hiking is an opportunity to improve physical and mental well-being, build confidence, and enjoy the beauty of nature in an inclusive, positive, and encouraging environment. We inspire women to step outside their comfort zones, embrace their authentic selves, and discover the strength they already possess.
Hiking is not about losing weight - it's about feeling good, having fun and celebrating what your body can do. The size of your body does not determine the size of your journey.
Founded on March 2, 2019, the San Antonio Plus Size Women’s Hiking Group has been offering regular hikes and fostering a welcoming community ever since. Our members represent a diverse range of ages, backgrounds, body sizes, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We provide a safe and supportive space for women who enjoy hiking but may feel intimidated or uncomfortable in more traditional outdoor groups.
We are not a fitness-focused group. Instead, our mission centers on enjoying the outdoors, moving our bodies, exploring new experiences, and building a community of empowered women. One of the greatest benefits of our all-women’s group is the sense of camaraderie, encouragement, and genuine connection that develops along the trail. There is plenty of laughter, shared experiences, and support as we challenge ourselves and grow together.
Our hikes vary in distance and difficulty, and we maintain a pace that is comfortable and inclusive for everyone. Most importantly, no woman is left behind. Our philosophy is simple:
We start together, stay together, and finish together.
The Legal Stuff
Our hike leaders, organizers, and hosts are volunteers who participate as fellow members of the group. While they help coordinate activities, each participant is ultimately responsible for their own safety and well-being. By attending a hike or participating in any group event, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with outdoor activities. You are responsible for determining whether you are physically and medically able to participate and for taking appropriate precautions for your own safety.
By joining this group and participating in its activities, you understand that not all risks can be identified or anticipated. Outdoor recreation involves known and unknown risks that may result in property damage, injury, illness, or, in rare cases, death. Participation is voluntary, and each member assumes full responsibility for any risks associated with their involvement in group activities.
We encourage all members to hike within their abilities, come prepared, and prioritize their safety while enjoying the experience and support of our community.
GROUP GUIDELINES:
- Women Supporting Women. This group is for people who identify as women (ages 15+).
- NO WOMAN LEFT BEHIND is our group motto and the foundation of our community.
- Leave No Trace. When we're out in nature, please practice "Leave No Trace" principles so that we make a minimal impact on the places we explore.
- Choose Kindness. Treat every member with dignity, respect and compassion. Opinions may differ but kindness and courtesy are essential. We can disagree without being disagreeable and honor one another's perspectives even when they differ from our own.
- Zero Tolerance for Harassment or Discrimination. Our community celebrates diversity in all its forms. Hate speech, bullying, body shaming, harassment or discriminatory behavior based on race, ethnicity, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, or body size will not be tolerated.
- Respect everyone's privacy. Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make this group great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.
- Stay with the group. For safety reasons, all participants are expected to remain with the group during hikes. If you choose to leave the group before the hike is complete, you must notify the hike leader. Once you separate from the group, you assume full responsibility for your own safety and return.
- Know Your Limits. Only participate in hikes that match your fitness level and abilities. If you are experiencing difficulty or distress, please communicate with the group leader immediately. While we strive to support one another, we are not professional guides, and each participant is responsible for their own healthy, safety, and preparedness.
- Come Prepared. Water is required on every hike. For longer hikes, we strongly recommend bringing snacks, electrolytes, sunscreen, and any personal items needed for your comfort and safety.
- Respect Everyone's Time. Please arrive on time and ready to begin. Punctuality helps ensure a smooth experience for everyone and allows us to start our adventures together.
GROUNDS FOR REMOVAL:
To preserve the integrity, safety, and the spirit of our community, membership may be revoked for any of the following reasons:
- Deliberate or repeated violations of the Group Guidelines.
- Harassment, bullying, discrimination or behavior that makes others feel unsafe or unwelcome.
- More than 3 event no-shows or a pattern of reserving spots and canceling last minute.
- Non-payment of Membership Dues. Removal happens automatically once your FREE 30-Day trial period is over.
Life is better when we journey together. May this group be more than a collection of hikers on a trail—may it be a circle of encouragement, a source of strength, and a reminder that you are capable of more than you imagine.
May every path you walk help you discover a deeper confidence, a greater sense of belonging, and the courage to embrace the woman you were created to be. May the miles bring healing, the laughter bring joy, and the friendships you find along the way remind you that no journey is meant to be traveled alone.
So lace up your boots, lift your eyes to the horizon, and take that next step forward. The trail is waiting, and so is the best version of you. Happy trails, and may your journey be as beautiful as the destination. 🥾✨🌿
