What we're about
Mission: To build and sustain a non-parish affiliated fellowship of San Diego Catholics interested in forming strong relationships with each other (and Christ) and putting their faith into action, through regular participation in social and service events.
Our group consists of single/married/divorced/annulled/widowed professionals, ages 28 to early 40s, who value quality interaction with like-minded Catholics. While we enjoy the various parish young adult groups or diocesan functions in the area, it may be challenging for some to connect at those events given the size and lack of regular attendance of many young adults.
This group provides a much smaller venue to get to know other high caliber, mature, responsible, altruistic young adults, and also gives us the freedom to easily create our own get-togethers. Our regular events include Sunday Mass and brunch (monthly, and rotating among the parishes of our members), dinner/game nights (at least bi-monthly), and various service opportunities (at least bi-monthly, and ranging from community-based to parish-sponsored functions). You'll also be kept in the loop on major diocesan events (Theology on Tap, Theology Uncorked, Catholic Answers talks, young adult retreats, Xmas gala, etc) and local young adult group activities so that we can potentially attend together. Previous outings without an established frequency include hikes, potlucks, movie nights, local festivals, SD restaurant week meals, concerts, sporting events, etc. There will be plenty of chances for regular participation and we are always open to suggestions, especially if you are open to hosting/leading that shindig! We cover the Meetup site dues/fees, but you pay for your food and admission to the various events.
This Meetup focuses on quality instead of quantity and is comfortable with a small group as opposed to the mentality of adding Facebook friends just to bump up numbers on your profile. Understanding the demands of our hectic schedules, but recognizing that the development of authentic relationships requires real time spent, if you join the group we'd expect to see you at least bi-monthly (once every two months). If that proves to be too demanding but would like to stay remain as a member, simply communicate that to us and we'll look at it on a case-by-case basis.
Additionally, we are thrilled if you end up connecting with others in the group and choose to meet with them more frequently. We realize that everyone has a different level of comfort with their relationship with God and with the Catholic Church. We especially welcome those who are interested in further exploring their Catholic faith and seek a safe place to engage in productive discussion to understand the different points of view and perspectives from both the secular world and Catholic doctrine, without needing to serve as apologetic who has to constantly defend their religious stance. Often times, many of us simply appreciate the company of fellow Catholics with whom we can be genuine, with whom we can offer mutual support in those trying times, and with whom we'll hold each other accountable in order to be the "best version version of ourselves."
Please answer the questionnaire honestly as it will help us determine whether this Meetup group is a good fit for you and vice versa. Also, please post an actual picture of yourself. Looking forward to breaking bread and enjoying San Diego with you!
