Hi all,

Things get notched up really fast online, don't they?

I've missed our meetings more often than I'd like recently, but I just thought I'd chime in and say that one of the things I appreciate most about this group is our willingness to come together in order to communicate, to tackle tough issues with openness, to engage in debate from a place of integrity and curiosity.

I love that the organizers of this group are persistent about bringing us together, tracking down locations for us to meet, and managing all the behind-the-scenes work that keeps things on track. I love that Thomas is so proactive about bringing our community together in ways that go well beyond the book club meetings. I've gotten to know Sabrina in some really intense discussions, and I love her directness, her willingness to take risks and say what's on her mind.

I accepted a job just this week in Seattle, and so I'm actually moving from San Diego on fairly short notice. I've really enjoyed meeting so many of you, and I've been really grateful for the discussions and activities I've participated in. I hope I'll find a similar group in Seattle, but I also hope that everyone involved with this group will tend to its communal care, supporting its organizers and the vision of open and respectful communication that led them to bring us all together in the first place.

My warmest wishes and best regards,

Kim

 Dear Sabrina,

Your response to Lisa's email started off good by saying you wanted a weekend of "positivity."  But then your next sentence you went on to inject your personal criticism of Lisa by saying that her email is "so odd."

I think that using a public arena such as the bulletin board such as this meet up group to verbally attack somone is purely abusive on your part. Your tone was particularly hostile and to be honest I think you are a bully!

You handled this so poorly!! Since Lisa was not aware that there were male members of the group, you could have just said that. Obviously she did not know men could be feminists...

So now it's my turn to do what you just did...let's see how you feel: So Sabrina...it sounds like to me you  have a lot of hostility towards other women? It seems so counterintuitive to be a feminist...I think you should seek professional help...

Best Regards,

Rachel

PS: If there is an onslaught of emails going back and forth after this...I really think this should be kept between individuals...like it should have been the first time.

Lisa,

I?m going to make this short because this is supposed to be a weekend of positivity but your email is so odd I need to respond?.basically, Thomas is an active member of the group and organizing events or activities for the group is not a form of spam.  Further, if you would like to present some logical or thoughtful argument about whether men ought to identify as feminist or participate in feminist activities (an argument I would gladly have with you), then you should bring this up at a subsequent meeting and ideally in a way that considers the diversity in forms of feminism that exist.  -sabrina

Hey Feminists,

Im not sure why I keep getting emails regarding Hikes and other meetings
other
then feminist book club meetings like the one below.

It looks like SPAM from a group member.  It would be great to know why
there is a
lot of SPAM from male members in this feminist book group.  Seems confusing
and not sure why that this group continues to email out this type of SPAM
solicitations.  Especially being that it is a male member.... seems counter
productive to the Feminist Movement.

If this is not SPAM I think the more mature approach would be to set up
another
email list and be mature enough to contact members that this member knows
personally to offer a meeting that is other then the book group meeting.
It appears
that this is an attempt to solicit the group.  How sad.

Thanks!

Lisa

Attached email solicitation.:
I've been talking about arranging a group hiking trip to Borrego Springs
for awhile
now, and have only been waiting for the weather to cool off enough. I think
we are
just about there, so I'd like to see who is interested in going out to the
Agua
Caliente County Park in Borrego Springs the first Saturday of December to
do
some hiking. The park also has some mineral and hot springs in which we can
go
swiming afterwards. If you are interested, shoot me an email at
