What we're about

We are a group of international students dedicated to becoming fluent in English. We attend free English classes at a local language school five days a week (or as often as each of us can come). We are open to all new group members from all over the world with the desire to speak like a native speaker. About organizers: The group was created by Carolyn Shobe a teacher, traveler, and academic coordinator for International House. She wanted to create a place where international students could meet and improve their English. The school she works for offers free English classes in the afternoon to adults from all over the world. A little about International House: IH San Diego is a charter member of the Net-Pacific Group of International House language schools which includes campuses in Vancouver & Whistler, Canada and Santander & Valladolid, Spain. With a wide variety of courses and an active social program, IH San Diego is the ideal place to learn English while having a fun and memorable experience. Purposes - To improve English language skills - To meet other international students/residents in San Diego; networking to create long-lasting friendships - To share culture, exchange ideas, and learn about different countries - To provide ongoing support to international students/travelers/residents to make the time spent in San Diego more enjoyable and enriching Members The group members come from a wide range of different backgrounds and countries. The members are aged between 20 – 65. Activities Our main activity is to attend a local, free English class to improve our language skills. The main purpose is educational, but learning English always allows for the exchange of culture and for networking opportunities. Note: Members often go out for coffee or dinner afterwards. Some have even become close friends and meet two or three times a week to practice their English. Attendance A no-show is not acceptable. If you sign up for a class and later find out that you are unable to attend, please call or email to let the organizer know. Membership Fee There is no membership fee. In fact, the school really appreciates their students and offers free daily bus passes for students attending the free English classes. There is even a raffle on Friday for all students.
