What we're about

Aging is curable! The purpose of this group is to bring together people interested in the rapidly developing science of longevity and discuss ways to accelerate the process of developing legitimate life extension and age reversal interventions. We are a community of like-minded individuals and progressive thinkers drawn together to discuss the latest in longevity bioscience research and advocate for increased funding and public support of technologies that can increase healthspan.

Journal Club : Insulin Signaling Pathway and Aging

UCSD Geisel Library

Journal Club Wil Schreiner will present the following paper: "The Complexities of IGF/Insulin Signaling in Aging" ================================================== Molecular Endocrinology, 1 August 2015 https://academic.oup.com/mend/article/29/8/1107/2870419 Wil Schreiner will facilitate a session presenting the above paper on the Insulin Signaling Pathway while giving a lot of background on Aging, Insulin and Aging in C. Elegans. Quoting the abstract: <<< Life span extension has been achieved by genetic manipulation in multiple organisms resulting in more than a doubling of life span in some cases. Typically, a reduction in function has been the most effective approach to extending life span, and a reduction in the insulin/IGF-1 signaling pathway appears to provide the most robust increase in life span. >>> Some easy general background : ================================ - Introducing Insulin Signaling (video) http://vcell.ndsu.nodak.edu/animations/insulinsignaling/movie-flash.htm - The Connection Between Insulin Resistance and Aging (general article) https://cathe.com/the-connection-between-insulin-resistance-and-aging/ First timers are very welcome ! ============================== We'll also discuss how to go about preparing and presenting a paper, article or book , and what interesting publications we would like to hear about.
