What we're about

This Meetup was started because we want to provide a regular, on-going place where nonprofit professionals in San Diego can come together and learn more about the best way to support nonprofits through online technology.

We believe that NGOs often have very few resources dedicated towards technology, or their website or social media presence. This presents challenges to those supporting such organizations. But we also recognize that powerful online tools have become much more readily available and affordable. By discussing together what is working for each of us, we can all enhance our ability to do more good in the world through our organizations and their online offerings.

NONPROFIT STAFF will find a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for those who aren't experienced with technology, and many chances to ask questions of tech-experienced nonprofits and experts.

TECHNOLOGISTS AND CONSULTANTS will find opportunities to put your expertise to social good, as well as the potential for lasting relationships (be they paid or volunteer) with leading organizations in your community.

This Meetup is part of a broad network of NGO-focused Meetups, coordinated by NetSquared.

NETSUQARED brings together nonprofits and activists, tech leaders and funders, and everyone who's interested in using technology and digital marketing for social change.

Essentials of a Great Nonprofit Homepage

== SAN DIEGO NONPROFIT == == TECHNOLOGY MEETUP == This monthly Meetup is a place for all people connected with nonprofit organizations to come together and discuss the technology ideas, tools, practices, and even struggles they have. Technology of all kinds is a tool we can and should use to further empower our various causes. How exactly it does that is what we come together to hash out. == THIS MONTH’S AGENDA == 1. Intros 2. Presentation 3. Q&A 4. Meet and Mingle We will be providing a light lunch of sandwiches (veggie options will be available, as well as gluten free options) and drinks. == PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION == Your website is face of your organization, and often the first impression that you make with your community. In this talk, Evan and Daniella of Minimal Chaos (minimalchaosweb.com) will teach you how to turn your website's homepage into your organization's #1 spokesperson. Learn about the goals your homepage should serve, the content elements it should include, and the tone and messaging that it should communicate in order to get your audience to stop and listen. == LOCATION & PARKING == We're in the original Downtown City Hall building, on G Street, between 4th and 5th. We'll have someone available at the door to let folks in and show the way to the office. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we might not have somewhere there, use the buzzer (Suite #204) and we'll do our best to be on the lookout for you. There is quite a bit of available street parking that is affordable. Park It on Market is another affordable parking option that is nearby as well. But because it is Downtown, you might want to consider ridesharing options like Lyft or Uber.
