What we're about

Hello, and welcome to our Meetup!

My name is John Watts of Watts Digital Imaging (http://www.wattsdigital.com/) - I teach Photoshop, Color Management and Digital Printing to and for photographers, and I'm passionate about these disciplines. I’ve been involved professionally in photographic imaging in Southern California for over 35 years, and would love to share what I know with you. Click Here (http://www.wattsdigital.com/aboutjohnwatts.html) for a full biography…

Meetups - - We generally hold one Meetup a month on the second Wednesday of the month, 8 months out of the year (no Meetups in June, July, August and December). They're a chance to get together, socialize, and learn a full range of basic to advanced subjects that are on everyone’s minds. They're held in the historic Photo Arts building in Balboa Park.

Oh, and if you're interested, all Meetups are centered around the principles of my book, "Not Just Another Photoshop Book" (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HNLS1Q2), available at Amazon.

Cost: Cheap!!! There is a small, modest cost to attend ($5) to cover building rental expenses, printing cost of copious notes, etc.

Looking for other Photoshop / Printing / Color Management resources? Check out my website: http://www.wattsdigital.com/

Look forward to meeting you!!!

Cheers,

John (john@wattsdigital.com) :-)

Photoshop 101 - Class 1: The Foundation

Photographic Arts Building - Balboa Park

$5.00

New to Photoshop? Need to brush up on the basics? Then join us and learn some foundational stuff. This is the first of three "I-just-got-Photoshop-now-what" Meetups , focusing on the fundamentals - The second and third Meetup in this series will be held on Tuesday, October 8th (https://www.meetup.com/San-Diego-Photoshop-for-Photography/events/263044505/) and Wednesday, November 13th (https://www.meetup.com/San-Diego-Photoshop-for-Photography/events/263044556/). Think of this Meetup as the “Roadmap” to Photoshop - - I’ll show you how to effectively navigate through a complex program, showing those functions you really need and want as a photographer. You’ll learn what’s important and what you can ignore. Without this “Roadmap”, you’ll truly be lost. We're going to talk about a whole range of subjects such as proper Workflow, setting up all of your various preferences, effectively using your Workspace, an in-depth look at the most important Panels, how to properly save your files, and much more. The cost to attend is $5 for this 90 minute Meetup, payable when you RSVP online. A useful handout will be provided. Please note that in the interest of time, the focus will be on the subjects listed, rather than other functions, tools, and concepts of Photoshop. This low-cost workshop is designed primarily for those fairly new to Photoshop, but it is also a good "refresher" course in the basics for those with a bit more experience. As this presentation is in a “seminar” format (via a digital projector), bringing your laptop is NOT recommended, due to limited space and time (tablets OK). Questions encouraged - I'll provide bottled water - Let's have some fun! RSVP early! - We'll finish up promptly at 8:30 PM - See you there! Photoshop 101 - Class 2: Contrast & Color

Photographic Arts Building - Balboa Park

$5.00

Ever asked yourself, “What makes a good color print, and how do I use the basics of Photoshop to achieve my desired results?” - If so, then this workshop is for you! Using the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Super Simple) method, we'll learn how to take well-exposed digital images and improve them, sometimes dramatically, with just a few key but critical functions. Those who RSVP are encouraged to pre-submit one or two well-exposed higher-res JPG or TIFF files - "problem" files encouraged! Although we'll probably only get to 6 or 7 of these files, we'll use them throughout the seminar to put what we've learned into practice. Please submit via my webpage upload (http://www.wattsdigital.com/uploadfilestous.html) ... Please send your file "un-enhanced" (no Photoshop work),and YOUR FILE SHOULD BE NO LARGER THAN 30 MB!! No RAW files please ... The cost to attend is $5 for this 90 minute Meetup, payable when you RSVP online. A useful handout will be provided. Please note that in the interest of time, the focus will be on controlling your Contrast and Color, rather than other functions, tools, and concepts of Photoshop. Photoshop 101 - Class 3: RAW Fundamentals

Photographic Arts Building - Balboa Park

$5.00

The Adobe Camera RAW Plug-in (included in Photoshop) is a powerful program that gives you the ability to properly optimize your camera RAW files before importing them into Photoshop. A Camera RAW file is different from a JPEG in many respects — Bottom line; you’ll capture much more information to work with in a RAW file than you will with a JPEG, and information is king! John Watts will demonstrate why you should be shooting RAW for your important work - it should be foundational to your overall workflow ... the results are worth it! Those who RSVP are encouraged to pre-submit one RAW file - "problem" files encouraged! - we'll use them throughout the seminar to put what we've learned into practice. Please submit via my webpage upload (http://www.wattsdigital.com/uploadfilestous.html) ... RAW files only, please - you do not need to send your .xmp file, if you have one. The cost to attend is $5 for this 90 minute Meetup, payable when you RSVP online. A useful handout will be provided. Please note that in the interest of time, the focus will be on RAW fundamentals for Photoshop, rather than other functions, tools, and concepts of Photoshop.
