This is a group for practitioners of traditional Okinawan Karate-do. All skill levels and abilities welcome! I started this group to set up informal workouts focusing on kihon (basic techniques), kata (forms), bunkai (kata applications & self defense), and internal/external energy work. I am a godan (fifth degree black belt) with 25+ years experience in Gojuyu Karate-do, including significant time training at Honbu dojos in Tokyo & Okinawa, Japan, and looking to connect with others interested in Gojuryu (or other Okinawan styles such as Shorin-ryu and Uechi-ryu). I am a Chief Instructor with the International Meibukan Gojuryu Karate-do Association under the direction of Master Meitatsu Yagi and his sons in Naha, Okinawa (my teachers).
We now have regular classes from 6:30 to 7:30 PM most Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Potrero Hill Recreation Center in San Francisco (801 Arkansas St, San Francisco, CA 94107). We are offering these classes through the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and are free to all! Classes are insured.
