I get lots of requests from people to contact our members, but I really don't want to bother you with these all the time, so maybe once in a while I'll put together a little digest like this...
The first request comes from our former chief organizer who is now toiling away (in a good way) in China, imparting his wisdom of the English language to his disciples. He says his school, like many in Asia, is desperate for teachers. His school requires a TESOL or TEFL certificate, and he recommends TESOL Training International in North Park, which holds free seminars for those interested. UCSD also offers a very complete TEFL training program, requiring about six months to complete (but you'll learn [and pay] a lot more). If you think you have what it takes to teach, what he describes as "part teacher, part showman, part survivalist", go ahead and contact Matt at [address removed].
Another member, Lynn, has been asked to coordinate a Chinese New Year Luncheon on February 10 @ 11 AM at Chin's in downtown Carlsbad and is looking for anyone "authentically Chinese who would like to speak to our [travel] groups on their knowledge of Chinese New Year". If interested, contact Lynn at http://www.meetup.com/message/?recipientId=43799782 .
I'm hoping to arrange our own yearly Chinese New Year party in the near future.
Finally, I receive many requests to help find families willing to host exchange students from Asia. If you're interested let me know, and I'll put you on a list to receive such announcements in the future.
Thank you for your time. If you haven't been out to any of our events recently. please come on out and let's all speak 國語!
