We have started meeting every Sunday afternoon to learn basic quantum mechanics together. The text we are using is readily accessible to anyone with an understanding of basic calculus and high school physics:
Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (2nd Edition) (http://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Quantum-Mechanics-2nd-Edition/dp/0131118927) by David Griffiths, one of the standard texts used in undergraduate QM courses. (Feel free to find a used / cheaper copy of the book online somewhere.)
We primarily discuss the new material we've read, work on problems together, and generally try to help each other get a solid understanding of QM. Our goal is to become experts on the book and eventually move on to more advanced quantum mechanics and quantum field theory.
Our meeting room in the library is randomly assigned to us on the day of the meetup, so please check back Sunday afternoon to see where we meet.
