What we're about
Are you an adult who is the child of a personality-disordered parent - such as Narcissistic Personality Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder? Have you been/ still currently in a relationship with an NPD or BPD partner? Have you had a close personal relationship through family or friends, with someone who has NPD or BPD? Have you found the emotional scars have affected your ability to cope with stress, form close relationships, manage your money and work?
The aim of our group is to provide a safe, caring & supportive environment for survivors of abusive & dysfunctional NPD & BPD parents, partners or others. We connect with, share and develop a support network with other survivors. We have guest speakers from various health & personal growth modalities visit us at some of our meetings to talk about how to learn new life skills and how to effectively cope with and recover from the damage a close relationship with a personalty disordered person wreaks on our hearts and minds.
We learn about how to let go of ways of relating to your BPD or NPD parent or partner that just do not work and find new ways to communicate, cope, and to live your life free of much of the pain that growing up in your dysfunctional family or being in a toxic relationship created.
The group usually meets the 2nd Monday night of each month 7.30pm to 9.15pm at an easily accessible community centre in Sydney's Western suburbs. ******In 2019, this is set to change so please check our page regularly for new dates, times & locations of regularly scheduled meet ups*****
We also social events that are currently held in the Parramatta area and a wonderful social club is forming. We've found that it's a good idea for new members to first attend one of our regular Sanctuary meet ups before attending a social. This helps give members a well rounded impression of our group and a chance to gage whether they feel comfortable, as well as help other members put names to faces and respect their boundaries. We kindly thank you for your co operation.
Newly subscribed members are encouraged to read the info on NPD & BPD listed in our group pages before attending your first meeting. http://www.meetup.com/Sanctuary-Support-for... (http://www.meetup.com/Sanctuary-Support-for-Adult-Children-of-NPD-BPD-Parents/about/)
We charge an annual membership fee of $5.00 to join this group. This is used to cover our meetup.com registration fees and some of our venue hire charges. This can be paid upon attendance of one of our usual Sanctuary meet ups.
We welcome all new members and ask that they RSVP to events on our Meetup page so that it is clearly visible to all attendees and complete/ make any changes to that RSVP by the cut-off time. This is a courtesy to all members and assists us to make alternative plans if required.
If you are not sure if this group is for you, I do suggest that you attend one of our regular meetings first. Whilst you do have to become a member of Sanctuary to see the meeting schedule, you can always choose to leave the group later should you feel the need.
If there are any other questions, feel free to get in touch with the group organiser - Ann :)
