Join us on Saturday, April 28th for a hike with Supervisor Hartmann in celebration of National #ParkRx Day on the beautiful Baron Ranch Trail on the scenic Gaviota Coast. The Baron Ranch Trail treats hikers to panoramic views of the Gaviota Coast, Pacific Ocean, and Channel Islands from a beautiful coastal chaparral setting.

National ParkRx Day is celebrated across the U.S. to promote the growing movement of prescribing park and nature trips to people to improve their health. Additionally, National ParkRx Day advocates for public policies that promote walking, green spaces, and public trail access. You can learn more about Supervisor Hartmann’s vision for the future of recreation in Santa Barbara County and how you can become an open-space, trails, and parks advocate in our County. Give yourself a prescription for some fresh air on National ParkRx Day!

Where: Baron Ranch trailhead at 14550 Calle Real, Gaviota

When: Saturday, April 28th from 10am to 1pm (event will be postponed in the event of rain)

Additional Information:

This is an easy to moderate hike for the first two miles and then more challenging when the route climbs out of the canyon. Easy to moderate hikers can hike the shorter 4-mile round trip route and more advanced hikers can choose to complete the 6-mile round trip loop. No dogs are allowed on this trail. Please bring plenty of drinking water, snacks, and/or a bagged lunch, sunscreen, a hat and appropriate shoes. Please note there are no restrooms at the trail head or on the trail.

Directions:

Directions from the South:

1) Hwy 101 North, 2.4 miles past Refugio Road exit turn right at road crossing onto Arroyo Quemada Ln., just past a yellow sign indicating “cross-traffic ahead”, before reaching Tajiguas Landfill. There is no northbound deceleration lane, so the turn-off must be anticipated.

2) Immediately turn left onto Calle Real and proceed until the road reaches a white gate.

Directions from the North:

1) Hwy 101 southbound, 2 miles past View Point turn off (at Arroyo Hondo) first left across Highway 101 is to the Tajiguas Landfill and the second left is to Baron Ranch. Turn left off of 101 then an immediate left on Calle Real and to the end of the road which is the entrance to Baron Ranch.

2) Immediately turn left onto Calle Real and proceed until the road reaches a white gate.
