What we're about

Public Group

The goal of the Santa Barbara Data Science Meetup is to gather professionals, academics, and practitioners around problems concerning the acquisition, analysis, and visualization of data---something that has been recently deemed the sexiest job of the century (http://hbr.org/2012/10/data-scientist-the-sexiest-job-of-the-21st-century/).

This group is meant to complement the excellent Santa Barbara R Users Group (http://www.meetup.com/Santa-Barbara-R-Users-Group/), with the goal to extend its audience beyond R users.

Initially, the meetup will follow the steps, and topics, of more established groups (http://www.meetup.com/Data-Mining/) with a similar focus, possibly by drawing from the same pool of speakers.

In the lulls between meetups and Kaggle competitions (http://www.kaggle.com/) a fresh source of data-related buzz can be found on the newborn DataTau (http://www.datatau.com/).
