I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your support; in June we have been visiting farms and food events for 3 years; currently we are 1019 members! It would be wonderful if you would take time to read this and reply to questions and share comments. I'm assuming that most of you joined to visit farms; spring>fall is best time for this so soon we will restart.  Because there is a limited number of farms in our county, we will be re-visiting some farms along with some new ones in Ventura and SLO counties which will require longer travel. Would some of you be interested in paying a fee for a bus? or prefer to car pool? Want a weekend farm tour getaway?

For most future farms and food events, there will be a required fee to RSVP to limit the attendance, when necessary, pay the farmer and to encourage a commitment. Please continue to share ideas of farms and food events.

I highly recommend that you attend the upcoming AMAZING workshops March 16-17 sponsored by the Edible Institute who founded the Edible magazines that we all love. There is an evening local food celebration on Saturday night.  I will unfortunately be out of town for this great event.­

Regarding Alice Waters in April, I hope you have purchased your $10.00 tickets from UCSB Arts and Lectures. I've received word that possibly some of the 40 people who RSVP  want to get together before for a sustainable dinner. Does anyone have ideas on where we should go?

Finally, I would like to know your interest in gleaning (harvesting extra food) at farms with an educational focus. You would not only pick food for those in need but go home with a small amount of your harvest, learn about its nutritional value and how to grow it. Interested?

And, when there is lots of a food item that is perishable, perhaps some of us can go to a community kitchen where we will process it, either can, dry it or freeze it together for school food or senior centers or for us to purchase.
