What we're about

We are a social group of people who want to make more friends and do fun activities.

We focus on making friends friends face to face, fun singles, activities partners, checking out the night life, a happy hour, new resturants, comedy clubs, festivals, or maybe a beach bonfire. Let just get together and have some fun, and some laughs. We want to attract people young at heart, active, easy going, adventurous, and friendly.

So, if you want to make more friends, or do fun activities, come join us!!!

Antarctica ice sheets - presentation by scientist

The Crepe Place

"HOW STABLE IS WEST ANTARCTICA?" "One of the major concerns for the future is being able to predict sea level rise. The main contribution to an error in sea level projections comes from uncertainty in ice loss from Antarctica. Antarctica is built up from two separate ice sheets, the East and West Antarctic Ice Sheets. In this talk, I will address the stability of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. Recent findings indicate that it is actually more dynamic than previously thought. I will constrain the timing of catastrophic retreat and recent re-advance of the West Antarctic grounding line. Understanding how this ice sheet behaved in the past allows us to better understand how it will respond to climate forcings in the future." Sarah Neuhaus Details: http://thecrepeplace.com/events/ http://wiseucsc.wixsite.com/wise/science-on-tap (links to past slideshows, too!) I'll reserve one table for 10 people for 6:00pm. Ask for Cheryl-Meetup's table. Arrive before the lecture to socialize with people from meetup! Five meetup groups are going. Please RSVP if you want to socialize with the group. Also, please change your RSVP if you can't make it. It's not cool to just not show up. No shows are recorded and will affect your ability to attend in the future. Places at the table are first come, first served. That means if you're holding a chair for someone, you need to give it up if someone needs it. Please be courteous to fellow attendees, including your organizer. It's hard to find organizers willing to host events when people are rude or don't show up. :) RAIN CANCELS. DRESS WARMLY. Background reading: ‘Extraordinary thinning’ of ice sheets revealed deep inside Antarctica New satellite data reveals that the ice sheets have thinned tremendously. If these ice sheets melt, it will cause a sea level rise of almost 200 feet. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/may/16/thinning-of-antarctic-ice-sheets-spreading-inland-rapidly-study Studies at the Arctic demonstrate the melting's affect on life, including phytoplankton, which is food for animals like whales and produce a lot of oxygen https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/08/world/arctic-beneath-ice-intl/index.html
