Come enjoy this wonderful presentation by Steve Mandel, who has been photographing nature for over 25 years, and will feature wildlife images from his journeys to the seven continents. This fascinating talk will cover the artistic principles behind capturing wild animals. In this talk you will learn how to improve your own wildlife images, regardless of the camera you use.
After an experience in a destroyed rain forest on a trip to Australia, Steve began to study and use wildlife photography as a way to inform people about the rapid pace of global habitat destruction and its disastrous effect on wildlife. He has studied with Frans Lanting.
His photos have won awards and have been reproduced in many publications globally. They have also been displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. He has used a remote-controlled “camera car” to capture some incredible videos of lions in Africa, which he will show. Steve also uses drones and a robotic camera boat for wildlife and conservation photography.
Prior to that, his spare time was focused on astronomical imaging and gathering data for astronomers. In 1996, he was one of the pioneers in the use of digital photography for taking pictures of galaxies, supernovae and other astronomical objects, which were used by NASA and other astronomy organizations. In 2008, he received the top global award for amateur contributions to astrophysics.
He is the founder of Mandel Communications, Inc., a global training company that trains people in organizations on presentation and communication methods. He has volunteered his business world consulting skills with wildlife NGOs in Kenya and over 30 other conservation groups.
