The goal of this group is to provide a low pressure setting for players to jam. We will also prepare players to fit in in the way most jam sessions are run. We want to give you the confidence to play in these sessions if that is your goal. Each of our jazz jam sessions will follow the informal style of this type of session as it happens in garages and jazz clubs; mostly playing tunes from the Real Book series and Blue Note era.
Our second goal is to help players build a list of tunes that they can play without sheet music, knowing both the head and the changes. This will really free us up to play our best solos over this material.
To that end, we encourage all members to send in tunes they would like to play in the next session. We pre-publish that list of tunes for the jam, perhaps with seminal pro recordings. This gives all of us a chance to learn the tune.
We will meet every week on Tuesday nights, 7-9 at the organizers place. I have a jazz drum kit as well as a Steinway B. Please bring your own music stand and amp as needed.
New players should be able to read music, or to know jazz standards by ear, and have a rudimentary ability to solo over jazz tunes and changes.
I've changed the questions on the player's profile, please fill that out as you can get to it.
