Taos Mountain Balloon Rally 2021

The Taos News

The Taos Balloon Rally is a much more intimate and personal experience. Our plan will be to get to theTMBRA field (located on Albright Street
behind the Taos County Court House) early enough to watch preparations for the ascension and, then, watch the balloons take off. When I attended some years back, the winds were not favorable, so not all of the balloons ascended...there were still great photo ops, though.

Here is the schedule of events: http://www.taosballoonrally.com/schedule.html

If you are shooting in low light, a tripod might be a useful accompaniment. Dress warmly, it is usually quite chilly in the morning.

For those of you that are planning to drive up that morning, it's about 1 hour 40 minutes from the SE portion of SF. If you carpool and your driver asks, be sure to wear masks. Do give your driver $5 for gas.

Housekeeping Details for Group Events:

Paid members have preference over guests. If there are spaces available within 24-48 hours of the event, the list will be open to guests.

If you are planning to attend the event and you have to cancel, please show courtesy to those on the wait list by changing your RSVP through Meetup. Be sure that you double check your RSVP status so that if you’ve canceled, your RSVP shows “Not Going.” You may have to log out of Meetup and re-log in to check that it actually changed your RSVP.

If the event is being held after 5pm, please make sure and double-check your RSVP status via Meetup the morning of the event or if the event is being held during the day, please confirm your RSVP by noon the day before.

No shows will be automatically waitlisted for future events.

Shooting the Night Skies of NM - Villanueva State Park

This is an outing to shoot the night skies for the stars, planets and galaxies that surround us.

Please note, this is the same weekend that Daylight Savings ends so we will fall back an hour. It will be getting dark much earlier. Here are the details about the arrival of darkness:

Sunset: 5:02pm
Civil Twilight: 5:28pm
Nautical Twilight: 5:59pm
Astronomical Twilight: 6:28pm

We will meet at 3pm at Café Fina to carpool/caravan as a group. The drive is 50 minutes from Café Fina. For this event, I've reserved three campsites next to each other at the Villanueva State Park - located on the Pecos River. The campsites are reserved overnight, but we do not have to stay (I will not stay overnight). Each campsite will allow 2 cars - and, a max of 7 persons.

We will arrive when the reserved campsites open at 4pm and scope out our best spots for photographing the night skies. There are grills and picnic tables available if we decide we want to cook out. Or, just bring your own dinner/snacks. We can decide this closer to the event.

Definitely bring your tripods and camera attachments, a remote shutter, and a flashlight...Some of you have apps that give you details about the night sky - I imagine those will be helpful - most especially for those that don't know the constellations. Dress warmly...it will be cold.

For any questions, please message me directly through Meetup or using my email [masked].
