Santa Fe Sierra Club Outings

This is a shuttle hike within Bandelier National Monument. We will be hiking the Apache Springs trail and the Ponderosa trail. This is EXPLORATORY since I have previously only hiked about 1/2 of this route. We will hike the Apache Springs trail out to the edge of Frijoles Canyon, then down into the canyon and then downstream along the Rito de los Frijoles to the Upper Crossing. Then we'll hike back up to the canyon rim on the dramatic Ponderosa trail.
Altogether we will gain about 1,000 ft. of elevation, though we'll be descending around 1,600 ft. along the way. On trail on all but a very short section right at the start.
We will take a lunch break about halfway, so bring along your food and drink for about a 4 hr. hike.

We can carpool from Market Street supermarket If you decide to meet us at the trailhead, please advise me through the chat on this platform. We will figure out the short car shuttle of about 2 mi. in the parking lot before we depart.

A reminder about signing up for this hike or any of our outings: if after signing up you cannot go, please update your GOING to NOT GOING here on Meetup as soon as possible and not the morning before we leave to allow those on the waiting list to join. After multiple NO SHOWS you won't be allowed to go along on future outings.
