What we're about

If you want to make some friends, get to know the area beaches, parks and neighborhoods, and want a moderate workout; Sarasota Walkers is your group.

We plan to walk the beaches and as the group grows will get input as to other great places to hike. After our walks we can gather for coffee or a bite to eat.

During the heat of the summer;we walk in breezy locations near sunset. Thanks to all of our active walkers and the members who volunteer our great walks.

If you have an idea for a walk or a social, just email me. Carolyn.francis@hotmail.com

Upcoming events (4+)

Nathan Benderson Park Walk

5851 Nathan Benderson Cir

This event is co-hosted by Mary Greenland and Nanci Somers. We'll walk the perimeter of the lake at Nathan Benderson Park which is about 3.4 miles around. Parking is near the three-story tower.

If there's interest, we'll go out afterward. The plan is to start with Glory Days and then rotate the next month with a different restaurant. We'll take a group vote to determine the November restaurant. This will give us some variety.

See you there!

Venice Esplanade and Jetty Walk

Centennial Park Gazebo

This walk takes you along Venice Avenue to Venice Beach, then along the sidewalk to the Venice Jetty - it covers 3.8 miles roundtrip. After the walk feel free to pull up a lawn chair to socialize in the outdoor grass area by the gazebo - BYOR/S (bring your own refreshments/snacks).

Walk and Breakfast at Coquina Beach Cafe

Coquina Beach Cafe

We will be walking to Bridge Street today, with a return for breakfast at 9:30 at Coquina Beach Café. For those who want to walk a bit further on the paved walkway after breakfast, that's an option too. We will be walking on the walkway, but those who chose may walk on the beach. If you love great views and good breakfast, this place has it all.

Sailor Statue by Sarasota Waterfront

Gary and/or Les will be hosting this event. If you are new introduce yourself to the host so that they can help you get acquainted!!
This is a WALK at your OWN PACE type of walk. This walk has a fast group that takes about 45-50 minutes and a slower group that takes about 60-75 minutes to complete the walk. If you are just starting out, consider going to the top of the bridge and then wait for the group to come back, OR just turn around at the top (or anywhere YOU think is best) and meetup at O’Leary’s. The rest of the group will trickle in at O'Leary's, after the walk, at their own pace. MEET AT THE LEFT SIDE AS YOU ENTER O'LEARYS WALKWAY. THERE ARE SEVERAL SHADED PICNIC TABLES-

Meet at the Sailor Statue (Unconditional Surrender) for the start of the walk. Make some new friends and enjoy the sunset! Note the statue has recently been moved about 800 feet to the Southeast. It is still along the Marina parking lot, just in a different location. It is now in front of the Freedom Boat Club. (Also just to the left of the driveway into Marina Jack's)
