What we're about

If you want to make some friends, get to know the area beaches, parks and neighborhoods, and want a moderate workout; Sarasota Walkers is your group.

We plan to walk the beaches and as the group grows will get input as to other great places to hike. After our walks we can gather for coffee or a bite to eat.

During the heat of the summer;we walk in breezy locations near sunset. Thanks to all of our active walkers and the members who volunteer our great walks.

If you have an idea for a walk or a social, just email me. Carolyn.francis@hotmail.com

Power Walking (Sailor Statue, Over the Bridge and Back, Twice) 5.2 mi

Sailor Statue by Sarasota Waterfront

This is a power walking group for faster walkers. Some people have suggested we walk the bridge twice, rather than a long, flat walk to "The Circle", so we're doing it! We walk a 15-16 minute mile.

Nokomis/Casey Key Beach Walk

100 Casey Key Rd

We meet at Nokomis Beach under the covered area just right of the main parking lot. We start the approximately one-hour walk at 7:00 pm & walk the beach north towards Casey Key about 1.5 miles and return (total walk 3.0 miles). You may want to bring shoes, sandals, or flip flops as the shells may be rough on the feet. After the walk, we sit on the beach to watch the sunset. Bring a beach chair & personal refreshment/snack of your choice (no glass allowed on beach). We will social distance or wear a mask if you prefer. Nokomis Beach is located at 100 Casey Key Rd, Nokomis 34275. From Sarasota, take US 41 south; right on Albee Rd; cross the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway; the main parking lot is just to the left at the end of Albee Road. From Venice, take US 41 north; left on Albee Rd & follow above directions.

Manasota Key Beach Walk

8570 Manasota Key Rd

We're meeting at Manasota Key Beach under the covered picnic area next to the building with the restrooms, which is directly across from the parking lot. We will start the approximately one-hour beach walk at 7:00 pm, walk the beach about 1.5 miles and return (total walk 3.0 miles), alternating between a northerly and southerly route every other week. You may want to bring shoes, sandals, or flip flops as the shells can be rough on the feet. After the walk, we'll sit on the beach to watch the sunset. Bring a beach chair and a personal refreshment/snack of your choice (no glass on the beach). We will social distance or wear a mask if you prefer. Manasota Key Beach is located at 8570 Manasota Key Rd, Englewood, FL 34223. From Venice, take US 41 south; right on Hwy 776 south (Englewood Rd) to Manasota Beach Rd; right on Manasota Beach Rd (Hwy 774) & follow left/right turns to the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway; cross the bridge & the road dead ends into Manasota Key Rd. Turn right and right again into the parking lot, which is across the road from the park (the parking lot straight ahead after coming off the bridge is handicapped only). From Englewood, take Hwy 776 north to Manasota Beach Rd; turn left on Manasota Beach Road & follow above directions.

RINGLING BRIDGE WALK new time!

Sailor Statue by Sarasota Waterfront

Gary and Les will be hosting on alternating weeks. If you are new introduce yourself to the host so that they can help you get acquainted!! This is a WALK at your OWN PACE type of walk. This walk has a fast group that takes about 45-50 minutes and a slower group that takes about 60-75 minutes to complete the walk. If you are just starting out, consider going to the top of the bridge and then wait for the group to come back, OR just turn around at the top (or anywhere YOU think is best) and meetup at O’Leary’s. The rest of the group will trickle in at O'Leary's, after the walk, at their own pace. MEET AT THE LEFT SIDE AS YOU ENTER O'LEARYS WALKWAY. THERE ARE SEVERAL SHADED PICNIC TABLES- Please distance, 2 per table. There was a movie made in 1951 called "Follow the Sun", and if you do this walk regularly then you are in the movie. . We will be walking the bridge, under the bridge at Bird Key, and back. The sun should be setting and the lights should be on walking back. Meet at the Sailor Statue (Unconditional Surrender). Make some new friends and enjoy the sunset.
