What we’re about
The focus of this meet up is primarily on hiking in the summer, and cross-country skiing in the winter. That said, if you have a good idea that fits the "outdoor enthusiasts" description, by all means, send in the request and let's post it as an event. Examples are: biking, camping, snowshoeing, kayaking, and canoeing.
Most of the events will be near Saskatoon, but there are many interesting places to explore within a few hours' drive of the city so...let's get out there.
Now the unpleasant part: meetup sites cost money, so in order to offset the costs of this site I'm requesting that participants pay $5 per year, due at the first activity you participate in each year.
See you on the trails...

See all- Hike @ Saskatchewan Landing Provincial ParkTim Hortons, Saskatoon, SK
Please read the entire event description before signing up.
This is an all-day event, from 8:30am to 8:30pm. We will drive 2 hours to Saskatchewan Landing (30 minutes north of Swift Current), hike all day, and then return home.
This will be an intermediate/difficult event, depending on your hiking skill/fitness level. Because of this factor I'm limiting the attendance to 12 hikers. There will be elevation gains of 650 to 700m several times during the day, and I plan on hiking 19-20kms. That being said, there are also stunning views and a unique landscape for Saskatchewan. If you have hiked to mountain peaks in the Rockies, you should be fit enough for this hike.
I plan to start with Leg 5 of the Beaver Flat 50 Marathon, the green route on the map (Prairie Sky Running | Beaver Flat 50 (pskyrunning.com), total of 10.4 kms from the parking lot. Following that, we will hike Leg 6, 6.5 kms, elevation gains of 650 to 700 m again with ups and downs; then about 2 kms to go on a flat road back to the parking lot. These two legs should be slightly easier than past routes (if you have been to Sask Landing before with this meetup group) but still a challenging hike.
Temperatures are usually a little warmer in this area than in Saskatoon, with a forecast of 18 degrees and a chance of light rain - but the forecast will probably change. Hopefully the tick season will not yet be in full swing.
The area is windy, sunny, sandy and hot; there are lots of cactii; and the trails are narrow and straight up and down. Closed shoes and hiking poles are therefore essential as are sunscreen and a hat, lots (and lots) of water, a windjacket if you have one and layers to take off as the day heats up. Also bring a substantial lunch and plenty of snacks as it is a long day. If you are not properly prepared, you put not only yourself at risk but also inconvenience the group if something happens (and it has in the past).
Meet @ the Tim Hortons on 11th Street and Dawes Ave (just off Circle Drive, on the west side). We will carpool from there. If you need a lift to the meetup point, leave a message in Comments.
If this is your first event of 2024: please e-transfer annual meetup fee of $5 to eneudorf@hotmail.com
Here's more information about the park, from the Sask. tourism website: "Straddling the South Saskatchewan River Valley at the west end of Lake Diefenbaker, the Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park celebrates the site of the first historic crossing on the South Saskatchewan River. A great area to be enjoyed by all ages, the park is popular for its fishing, sun-bathing and hiking opportunities. This park features a number of interpretive trails and historic sites including the handsome Goodwin House. The boat launch is located on the north side of the lake while the main beach area, located on the west side of the park, is a perfect place to enjoy a warm summer's day."
