For our 22nd Scala Central, we are excited to be hosting at the Depop offices.
We've got three fantastic talks lined up! We'll be hearing from John Cragg on Distributed Schema Management, Daniel Ciocîrlan on Type-Level Sorting in Scala and Hosam Aly giving us a demo on running a Scala app in AWS Lambda.
The agenda is below, we'll also have further information on the talks soon.
6:30 pm - Doors Open
7 pm - John Cragg - Software Engineer - Depop
Distributed Schema Management
Here at Depop, we are becoming increasingly data driven. In order to do this, we need to ensure that our data is clean and sane.
Using cats, circe and shapeless we have created a schema repository that will protect our data lake from becoming a data swamp.
7:20 pm - Daniel Ciocîrlan - Founder of the Rock the JVM project - Palantir
Type-Level Sorting in Scala
Scala's type system and implicit resolution mechanism allow for sophisticated type-level relationship inference. In this talk we will see how we can impose type-level constraints and determine complex relationships between types, enough to be able to sort types... at compile time.
7:40 pm - Hosam Aly - Senior Software Engineer
Running a simple app in AWS Lambda (demo)
If you've never run a Scala application in AWS Lambda then this talk is for you. We're going to see the basic configuration without assuming prior knowledge of the platform.
8 pm - Drinks and Pizza
9 pm - Pub!
Make sure to update your RSVP early to secure a spot.
Looking forward to seeing many of you there!
