Scaling Agile and DevOps Scotland is really excited to be hosting the Scottish Launch of the "Heart of Agile" group. This group was initiated following several recent visits to Scotland from Alistair Cockburn (Agile Manifesto Original Signatory).

In a community first, we will be live streaming this event from SkyScanner's office in Edinburgh through to their office in Glasgow.

As an introduction to the topic, Tony Christensen, The Head of DevOps at the Royal Bank of Scotland and Heart of Agile Consultant, will initiate the group with his talk "Agile Cults and Religions - Don't Join one", followed by group discussions in each location where we will be exploring what Heart of Agile means to you.

Heart of Agile is a refocus back on the original simple idea that was so world-changing in The Agile manifesto. Recapture the excitement and exploration of needs!

"As 2014 progressed, I found myself saying more and more often: “Agile has become overly decorated. Let’s scrape away those decorations for a minute, and get back to the center of agile… ” - Alistair Cockburn

Tony Christensen - "Agile cults and religions - Don’t join one! Refocus on the Heart of Agile"

Agile has become a beacon for people and organisations to guide the path to better ways of working. It's inception was only 17 years ago and yet despite the intention of the 17 who came together to write the Manifesto, the Agile communities, practitioners and thought leaders have begun to argue about how to "do" Agile. In this way, Agile can be analogised to religion where the values and principles are being forgotten and in their place rituals, words and practices are followed and advocated blindly. This talk is intended to refocus Agilists back on the Heart of Agile and introduce a 5th Agile value…. Mindsets & behaviours guided by value & principles OVER Methods, Practices, Tools and Frameworks.

Those lovely people at Skyscanner will also be providing refreshments, so we won't be asking if you'll have hud yer tea.

Like the idea but can't get over from the East? Don't worry - we're running this from Edinburgh too!
