Why do you want to join this group?

When you enjoy something a great deal it's fun to share discussions of that with others who enjoy the same things. Fantasy/sci-fi in particular affords you the chance to explore ideas that can't be considered in standard fiction, like the "third" gender that's necessary for reproduction for the alien species in Octavia Butler's Dawn trilogy.

What is your favorite SFF book?

Alastair Reynold's "House of Suns" is certainly a contender, though his "Revelation Space" series is phenomenal, even if it suffers a bit for balance and clarity. In fantasy, I would easily say "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. If you've read it, you understand. It has the craftmanship of a short story in the breadth of a novel, the most coherent underpinnings of a basis for magic, and exciting, dangerous, loathsome, and lovable characters.

How often would you like to meet?

Once or twice a month

Tell us a little bit about yourself...

Aside from reading, I like to stay involved in as much outdoor activity as I can without actually hurting myself (that doesn't always work). I do a lot of hiking, biking (when my bike isn't stolen, like now), and kayaking. Grew up here, lived in Boston for 10 years, worked as a musican (college background in music composition with classical and jazz piano) and in various library jobs.

Hi, I'm Kevin, and I'm a book addict... I read sci-fi and fantasy (of course, else why am I here) and a whole bunch of eclectic and sometimes esoteric stuff.
