Special resolution to change the constitution
This special resolution changes the constitution and shall be tabled at the Annual General Meeting to be held on November 24, 2016.
Motion Moved by: Tomais Byrt (Treasurer)
Seconded by: James Jansson (Leader)
Summary of material changes
1. Changing the rules around preselecting candidates such that at least 50 members must participate in a preselection vote for it to be valid (previously this was a "Threshold Group", which won’t scale appropriately as the party expands into more electorates). To accommodate this, the preselection rules are also changing so that the vote doesn't need to be held at all if there are fewer than 50 eligible members.
2. Two members of the Executive are now required in order to call a spill of the Exec (previously only 1).
3. The reference to Executive elections occurring at GeneralMeetings is being removed, to ensure that the timing of nominations and voting can be maintained.
4. Removed the requirement for the Party to endorse a candidate in every seat where the sitting MP is a Science Party member (obviously this is hypothetical at this stage, but it is unnecessary as the Exec should always be able to decide which seats to run in).
